All I can say is this: Just buy the stupid kit....

We have a family tradition of attending the Festival of Trees every year. While there, my sister, Coby and I were inspired to make our own gingerbread house. We made the gingerbread from scratch, cut out all the stupid pieces and even made our own stained glass window. It took HOURS and that wasn't even the decorating part. So, after nearly a week of work, we got it done. If you ARE foolish like we were and decided to make your own we did try something that made things a ton easier. Hot glue the house together. You don't have to wait for the frosting to set up and you get a much better hold. I told Coby that I thought we were ready for the Festival of Trees next year. Then I looked at the pictures I took there. Maybe we need a little more practice. Here is our our final product:

Wow, I'm impressed! I did buy the 9 dollar kit from Walmart and it was easy to assemble, but it took forever to put all the candy on the house! My kids had fun, but after the first hour I was so done!

I agree, my friend and I made our own one year and actually they turned out fine and the frosting was actually better-but they took alot more work!
